Digital Marketing is not optional

Digital Marketing Is No Longer Optional

In the past, digital marketing was just a fancy way of advertising. It was something that big corporations did to get their name out there, but small businesses didn’t have access to it. Nowadays, digital marketing is no longer just social media and search engine optimization – it’s a whole science! The world has changed and so has the landscape of technology; in order to compete with your competitors or even just stay afloat in this ever-changing environment, you need someone on your team who’s up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies.

The world has changed.

The world has changed, how we work, how we communicate, how we do business, even how we acquire the products we want and need.

You may be thinking, “I’ve been in business for years and things have always worked out just fine.” But the fact is, we live in a digital world now and if you don’t adapt to it, someone else will. Marketing your business on the web is no longer a discretionary spending item; it’s mandatory for survival. If you’re not using digital marketing as part of your overall strategy, then chances are good that your competition already is–and they’re eating away at your bottom line with every click!

Digital marketing isn’t just about having an online presence; it’s about creating content that attracts customers from all over the world who want what you offer and ideally are ready to buy what you have to offer. The future belongs to those who embrace this new reality–so why wouldn’t everyone else?

Digital marketing is only growing.

In fact, digital marketing has become mandatory for businesses that want to succeed in today’s digital world. The local business model that worked in decades past has transformed. More and More consumers are reaching past their local offerings and looking for more.

Digital marketing has become an integral part of any business’ success, and it’s no longer just a luxury or a choice–it’s something every company needs in order to stay competitive with other brands out there in their industry.

The good old days have passed, we are no longer just in competition with those in our local area, depending on your industry you may be competing with businesses around the globe.

So, what does this mean for businesses? It means that if you want to stay competitive and grow your company, you need to make digital marketing a priority. And the sooner you start focusing on these best practices, the better off you’ll be later on down the road.

Digital marketing has changed as well.

Digital marketing has come a long way from just being social media and search engine optimization. It’s become more sophisticated, complex and effective than ever before.

With every algorithm change your ability to reach people get more difficult. Add in the privacy changes, the transition away from cookies, and ad blockers. The list goes on and on, from inside the industry I can assure you, the one thing you can count on is that everything changes, and you need to be refining consistently. What worked last year doesn’t work today.

Digital Marketing success relies on strategy and research.

You may have heard the phrase “digital marketing” and thought it was just another way to say “online marketing.” However, there are some important differences between the two. Digital marketing involves using technology to promote and sell products or services.

This can include things like social media, mobile apps and websites–all of which require research before launching them into the world. Your online business identity is not something to just leave to happenstance. It is your world facing business identity. It should be clear and reflective of your business, your values and your strategies.

Consumers know within 7 seconds if they trust your business and would consider making a purchase. In order to give yourself the best shot at earning their trust, you need to put your best foot forward.

Know your customer, understand why they need what you sell, offer solutions they care about, and do all of that in a clear, transparent and professional way.

Every piece of content, every campaign, every thing you do should have an intention behind it. Whether that is to education, to empathize, to inform, or to sell, keep that intention in mind the entire time, and create a mix of pieces that are meant to touch on each of these intentions. For example if you only ever educate, your potential customers won’t understand you have an offer. If you only ever sell, it comes across as aggressive and you will lose a lot of potential customers that way as well.

Have a consistent message, with a health mix of intentions, and execute this strategy consistently and predictably. Use data and metrics to gauge how this is working and adjust as needed.

Marketing is not a game for those that don’t enjoy change.

So, what does this mean for small businesses?

Digital marketing is no longer a discretionary spending item, it’s now part of the budget. To be competitive in today’s marketplace, you need to have a digital marketing plan in place and have experts I place who can help execute that plan. If you don’t have the resources or time to put into digital, then consider outsourcing those services so that all your resources are focused on running your business and not trying to figure out how to do something new or wasting valuable dollars with a steep learning curve.

What does this mean for your business? The first thing you need to do is take an inventory of what you already have in place. This includes looking at what’s working and what isn’t and then creating a digital marketing plan that will help you achieve your goals. If you don’t have a plan, then how will anyone know where to focus their efforts or how much money to spend?

Digital marketing has become the go to marketing choice for businesses of all sizes, after all the majority of time spent consuming information or media is now don’t online or through digital means.

It’s vital for any business to have a strong online presence and ensure that their products reach potential customers, whether they are around the corner of around the world.
